Land’s End to John o’Groats Walk

“So, fancy going for a walk?” said Dave late one Saturday evening in 2013 – after a few glasses of wine. “Sounds good” said Dot. That was the start of a conversation that lead to our decision to walk from Lands End to John o’Groats in 2016. ( LEJOG 2016 ) We will be starting from Land’s End on Friday 22nd January.

Having walked coastal paths before, with all the ins and outs and ups and downs, we have decided to make good progress through Cornwall and Devon by taking a more direct inland route but following tracks, lanes and minor roads rather than the A38!!! We will walk our way up through the Midlands and North West by following some of the many canals that criss-cross our lovely country. Scotland will be Gretna Green to Glasgow then the West Highland Way and The Great Glen Way followed by a walk up through the middle of the highlands to Bettyhill on the North coast and then on to John o’Groats. Sounds so easy when you say it doesn’t it?

We plan to camp, either wild camping or campsites, and stay at the occasional B&B too. Dave has created this website where you can follow our blog as we progress through England and Scotland.  – LeJog Walk 2016

We have been asked by quite a few people if we are walking for charity. It wasn’t our plan to do that initially but have decided that, as we make our way up virgin-money-giving-logo through England and Scotland, it would also be great to do some good and help a charity. After much discussion we have decided on “Macmillan Cancer Support”. We both have family Macmillan Cancer Supportmembers and friends who have been affected by cancer in its many forms and the support received from Macmillan has been greatly appreciated so we hope to raise a little money for them as our way of saying “Thanks”. 1. Hi Helene. Wow – Thanks for your generous donation – looks like we have to do the walk now! Would love you to join us for a walk. Should be around the middle to end of Feb. Keep an eye on our progress in our blog which we hope to update regularly.

  1. Dave & Dot,
Today’s the day you’re setting off isn’t it?
I hope the weather there at Lands End is better than it is here today.
Wishing all goes well and we intend to meet up with you for a beer or two when you get up our way.

    1. Thanks Ivan. We have arrived at Land’s End. After yesterday’s rain and wind we have sun and blue skies. A perfect day to start our adventure.
