Friday 25th March – 697.02 miles
You may have gathered from the mileage today that we have taken a break and booked into a b&b for the night.
We started walking at 7.30 and, what a difference a day makes! The sun was shining and the sky was blue.
We left our camp in the woods and walked on along the track and uphill for a while until we reached the top of a hill where we rested for a while.
We sat and enjoyed the sun and spread our damp clothes on a rocky outcrop to dry.
We walked on down towards Shap and passed the Blue Shap Quarry to our left.
The path took us through the quarry along well marked pathways and onto the A6.
Fortunately there was a pavement all the way to Shap.
We arrived at the Kings Arms Hotel around 10 am but we found that it wasn’t open until 3pm. We met Neil who lived next door who said we could leave our rucksacks while we walked to the shop – thanks Neil.
We found a post office where we bought phone top-up, a Co-op for supplies, a charity shop and, best of all the Shap Chippy which opened at 12.
We enjoyed a lovely meal – Dave had large chips with curry sauce and I had the lunchtime special – small fish and chips, bread and butter and a pot of tea for two. We phoned the hotel and found that it had opened at 12 so we wandered back and booked in. The room is very comfortable.
I had booked a double room with en-suite bathroom and was looking forward to a luxurious soak in the bath with a glass of wine – I’d even bought some Radox muscle soak with sage and salt minerals, but we have a room with en-suite shower instead. Ah well – them’s the breaks I suppose. Must say though that the shower was great and the room warm and comfortable. We have had a lovely evening just relaxing and doing nothing – the view from our window was amazing too.
Our very good friends Pete and Annie ordered a bottle wine for us too – it was thoughtful of you both thanks.
All in all, it’s been a very good day.
It was our pleasure for the wine. You deserve it.
Cheers 🙂
what a lovely thing to do Pete and Annie 🙂 that bed looks comfy mum 🙂
