Good day today. Decided to have an easier day and walk around 10 miles. Left Blackwater at 9.30. Thanks Margaret for a lovely stay and breakfast as well. Walked mainly along country lanes today.

However, we still managed to find a bit we needed to paddle through!

Surprisingly our feet didn’t get wet! Gaiters, and boots rubbed with dubbin. At the end of the track we came to Healey’s cider farm. They have a tea room  – yay! Resisted the temptation of the tour and a glass of cider – maybe some other time. Thanks to Becca and Tony for a friendly welcome.

Walked along pleasant country lanes to the pretty hamlet of Callestick. Met Nicola who wished us well with our challenge and advised me on the best brand of jacket to get when we find an outdoor gear shop. Strolled on along tiny lanes with clear views all around. Stopped for a break at Ventongimps – apple and cereal bar and a glug of Blackwater water!

Saw some lovely Cornish stone banks covered in snowdrops.

Followed tracks uphill and down dale to Goonhavern. Ooh look! There’s a pub! Where better to ask about accommodation?  Haven’t got a clue where we’re staying tonight but I’m sure we’ll have somewhere to lay our heads.
Famous last words! We were unable to contact the only b&b in Goonhavern so we decided to try some of the nearby campsites whilst walking in the direction of tomorrow’s destination St Enoder. All were closed. Fortunately we were directed to Oakridge Farm cottages where we met Steve. We negotiated one night’s stay in one of his lovely holiday cottages (normally only available for slightly longer lets but I think he could see how desperate we were!)

Steve lit the log burner and came over later with two tins of soup, milk, bread and butter too. How nice was that? We enjoyed supper and spent a cosy evening toasting our feet in front of the log fire.
