Slept well last night. Thank you to Paul and Jo for our pitch in their garden.
A frosty start this morning. Left Ham at 7 am and walked through Berkeley towards Sharpness.
Beautiful morning, dry sunny and hardly any cloud. The entrance to Sharpness Docks was dominated by cranes and gantries of different colours. It has seen better days but there was still plenty going on.
It wasn’t long before we arrived at the start of the canal towpath. We met Steve and Ray of the Canal River Trust who took an interest in our walk and told us about their work renovating and restoring the steel and wood walkways in the marina.
We stopped for a break there and over the wall we watched a seal lazing around in the river. Moving on we passed by the remains of the old Severn rail crossing and the rusting hulks used to reinforce the embankments.
The canal towpath gave us some good walking today and the miles passed by easily today. Met Polly, Craig and Fizz who were out for an afternoon walk . We spent some time chatting about our walk and we gave them one of our flyers so they could follow our progress. We also met Penny at the Stables tea rooms – thank you for your gift Penny.
We also met Roger and Carol, and the camper van man (sorry we didn’t get your name ) – we gave them all a flyer.
We spent quite some time at the Stables tea rooms drinking tea and coffee and a slice of malt loaf each too – well worth a visit.
Fully refreshed we continued on past the marina at Saul with one thought in our mind – where to camp for the night. We met a couple of canal boat people – John and Sue of the Primrose narrow boat. John is from Devon and he was interested in the route we took through his home county.
On for another few miles until we came to a sheltered area of grass on the side of the canal. A perfect place.
The tent was up in no time and soon we were enjoying a tasty supper cooked by Dave.
Still loving your story and progress . Belated Happy Birthday
Glad that you had such a fabulous day for walking. Quite a change from the soakings you had earlier on your epic trek! Annie and I so look forward to your daily reports. Much better than listening to the international news, which is always so gloomy and sad. You lift our spirits, guys. xxx
