A bit wet today!
Woke to the sound of rushing water. The water level in the stream was much higher and the rain was still coming down.

We took our time and managed to get everything packed and were away by 8.30. The tracks were a little wetter than yesterday!

Made our way slowly along the forestry track until we came to a road and turned in the direction of Tedburn St Mary. We were passing by a farm and needed a break so Dave knocked on the farmhouse door to ask if we could shelter in their barn for a while.

The answer was, yes and would we like a cup of tea. How kind was that? Thanks Phil and Kay of Langley Farm. We spent half an hour or so drinking tea and chatting with Kay. We also phoned our daughters Kate and Emma to let them know that we hadn’t been blown away!

Left the shelter of the barn and continued on our way up some steep hills and down again. Water was pouring down the road as we made our way.

A postman drove by and said “There’s a lovely cosy pub just up the road.” “That’s where we’re going” I replied.
We walked on across the A30 and into Tedburn St Mary where we found the Kings Arms. We walked through the door looking like two drowned rats and dripping water all over the tiled floor and were given a very warm welcome by the manager Andy. After we had peeled off our wet coats etc. he showed us to where he had just lit a log fire. We had already decided that we weren’t going any further today so instead of the usual tea for two, Dave had a pint of cider and I had a pint of Dartmoor Jail bitter.

We mentioned that we needed a b&b for the night and Andy said “We have accommodation here”. Music to our ears! We ordered some lunch – I had soup and Dave a ham and mustard baguette. Andy showed us the avaliable rooms and we chose the one with the bath as we both fancied a long soak. Bliss! We had a lazy afternoon looking out at the wind and rain, updating our blog and generally doing nothing much. Supper at 6.30 was delicious – we ordered the Saturday Meal Deal for two. Steaks (locally sourced) with all the trimmings and a bottle of Merlot.

Good value and the service was good too.
