Left The Warren House Inn around 7.50. Walked along moorland roads towards Moretonhampstead. As we walked along the clouds started to break up and the misty rain stopped allowing better views all around.
We met Julie who was out walking a dog for a friend. We asked if there was anywhere we could have access to WiFi and she advised us to go to the White Hart Hotel where we ordered our usual pot of tea for two. Stayed a while and ordered a pot of coffee too. The staff were very friendly and one of them advised us that the weather was going to be bad later tonight and tomorrow. We decided to crack on and, after picking up a few things from the Co-op, we left Moretonhampstead.
After a very long uphill climb we reached the top and, yes you’ve guessed it, we found a bench!
Admired the view for a while then continued on then turned right onto a track which wound round a hill until we came to a forestry track. We thought that we would have a difficult walk as the loggers had been in and the track looked very muddy.
However, it was reasonably firm underfoot. After following the track for about a kilometer we left the path and made our way down towards a stream and found a relatively flat place to pitch our tent.
Lovely evening, the sound of the stream flowing by and the smell of the pine woodland.
We had a cosy evening – Dot writing the daily blog (in our notebook as we didn’t have any phone signal etc.) and Dave cooking supper.
