Day 11 – Askham to Kirkpatrick Fleming – 46 miles

Monday 17th April 2017 – total 711 miles.
Dave brought me a cuppa around 8.30. He had been up for a while and had taken Bengy the dog for a walk.
We sat most of the morning drinking coffee with Madz and talking about this and that. Nigel cooked us all a delicious brunch of sausage, black pudding, eggs, tomatoes, beans and crispy fried bread which we all tucked into enthusiastically.

Thanks Nigel.
It was around 1pm that we said our goodbyes to everyone. Thanks for a lovely stay Madz and Nigel and was good to see you again Imogen. Lovely to meet Chris and Sarah, Keir and Ruairidh too and we wish you a safe journey home.

On the road again we drove through the Lowther estate and down to Penrith where we stopped to look around a garage sale. Dave bought a grease gun!

The weather was much better today still cloudy but plenty of blue sky. We had an easy drive along quiet roads lined with trees and bright yellow dandelions.

By 4.30 we had crossed over the border between England and Scotland, passed by Gretna Green and arrived at Bruce’s Cave Caravan Park where we booked in for the night.

As it was still early we took a walk down to Bruce’s Cave.

then on along the river, up through the woods.

The paths were lined with aconites and wood anemones. The bluebells and wild garlic were just coming into bloom too.

Back to the camper and Dave cooked mushroom omelettes for supper – thanks Dave. X
